Department: Department of Public Safety Position Summary: As part of an assigned team, campus Police Officers provide campus safety, security, and law enforcement services to the University community. Campus Police Officers provide a wide range of services, including both traditional and non-traditional police services. Officers are required to participate in crime prevention and community-oriented public safety programming. The successful candidate must project a positive image. Campus Police Officers enforce University regulations, local ordinances, and state laws. Officers are first responders to incidents, accidents, and other emergency situations and is responsible for conducting initial and follow-up investigations into significant and criminal incidents. Campus Police Officers will work under the direction of a police supervisor. Overtime is anticipated. This is an entry level, sworn campus police position. Base Monthly Salary: $3,304.17 Minimum Qualifications: Must be a resident of the State of Illinois Must be a High School Graduate or equivalent At least 21 years of age as of the closing date of this posting (May 21, 2016) Must have a valid Illinois driver’s license (A copy of both sides of the driver’s license must be submitted.) Must have no record of criminal conviction Must pass criminal background check United States Citizenship Note: Applicants who have not successfully completed the mandated firearm training course, as approved and recognized by the Illinois Law Enforcement Training & Standards Board, must complete the course during their probationary period. Police Officers are not authorized to carry a service weapon until successfully completing such training. Preferred Qualifications: Certified State Police Officer Previous sworn police experience Sworn police experience in a higher education environment Well versed in provisions of the Illinois Criminal Code and procedures of this state Knowledge of communication skills, oral and written, in order to interact effectively with people from various races, religions and social standings Aware of the role that the Police Officer plays in campus security and in support of the accomplishment of University goals and objectives Familiar with limitations and scope of authority of campus Police Officers Has a history of providing excellent customer service Work Schedule: Varies 24/7.
